
How did a native Indian name for a Canadian city end up in a remote village on lake Macquarie? Well it all happened in the 1880’s when a World Champion sculler Ned Hanlan came to Australia to defend his world title. He lost actually to the Australian Bill Beach.
At the same time land was for sale at Lake Macquarie and the Developers called it Toronto Estate. Well they thought it might help sell. After all 10,000 spectators watched the race.
